After lunch we went to Camelot Village to look at all the treasures. Daddy found some fun kitchen gadgets – a whisk and an ice cream scoop. From there we went up the hill to check out the Bennington battle monument, the tallest structure in Vermont! We decided that in order for Emily to officially graduate, she has to go to the top of the monument. So we took the short elevator ride to the top! It was breeze with clear views all the way out to Mt Greylock. We also saw Bennington College. I should mention that I didn’t really see any of it, because I was napping on Emily in the front pack, but I got the full story later in the car. We had to have Emily back to school at4 for her Lap Dulicimer class. After a breezy diaper change on the lawn, with many adoring fans huddled around, we said goodbye to Emily until we see her again on Friday.
Back at the Lake Daddy made chicken marsala for dinner and we relaxed on the porch until bedtime.
Today was supposed to be rainy, but turned into the hottest day yet! Mema and Poppop went down the mountain to run some errands. After my morning nap, I went swimming again. It was so warm that even Mommy went in! We have a family photo to prove it. It has been thundering in the distance all afternoon, but we haven’t gotten more than a few sprinkles. I took a LONG nap on Mommy’s lap, and have been practicing my rolling. Daddy build a sand turtle in the tiny beach out front, and almost caught a little fish in a bucket.
From Mommy:
You know it’s a hot day when I go swimming in the lake. I decided that I needed to swim at least once this vacation. With the predicted rain tonight the water temperature will likely cool down tomorrow so today was the day! I didn’t even have any trouble getting in. We took a timed family photo of the three of us out on the big rock. John looked really silly as he swam the last ten feet holding Preston over his head. I still can’t believe how much Preston loves the water. His cold seems a little bit better today; I hope I didn’t cause his cold to get worse again by letting him swim. It was such a beautiful day I couldn’t resist. He has been hanging out in onesies all week. Every Memorial Day weekend that I can remember has been cold and rainy. I packed a bunch of sweatshirts and long pants for him, thinking we would have to keep him warm. I guess it’s better to be over prepared.
Tomorrow we are planning a long day trip to Lake George for an afternoon boat ride with Mema and Poppop. It’s our last day by ourselves before the rest of the family joins us again for Emily’s Graduation festivities.
