Tonight Preston told me that his “neck hurts inside.” I’m pretty sure that’s toddler-speak for having a sore throat. He has a cold and his voice is scratchy. I gave him Tylenol to help him sleep, but I hope he feels better soon.
A few nights ago we were sitting at the table eating dinner, and John and I weren’t paying much attention. We finally looked over to see Preston eating his raisins (by request for dessert) with his scissors, picking them up individually by snipping them with the tip of the scissors and bringing them to his mouth. He DID get in trouble for doing it, and we took the scissors away. But the more I think about it, the more I’m impressed. One, because he even had the idea to do it. Two, because he had the fine motor skills to pull it off. And three, because he got away with it for a long time! He was totally focused, and then really upset when we took the scissors away. So we explained that it wasn’t safe, and we didn’t want him to get hurt. It blew over.
I got a very good report from daycare today. Preston has new teachers in his classroom, so they are going through a bit of an adjustment, but his new teacher told me that she was very impressed with how nice and helpful Preston was with all his friends today. He has been really agreeable lately at home, too!
Preston’s latest words and phrases:
- Moustache
- I did it by myself!
- Different one, Mommy
- Mommy, Got the boogies! TA DA!
- The sun is too bright!
He is constantly asking us “ What happened?” or “what’s that?” if there is any noise at all. And usually his own answer is “Daddy’s making noise!” Daddy gets the blame for a lot of things around here.
