Back to Bach

Today I went with Mom and Dad to Bach Choir Rehearsal.  Before I was born both Mom and Dad sang in the choir.  Now, Mom has to stay home with me, but Dad still goes every week.  Everyone was so excited to see me!
I'm a pretty lucky baby.  When we got to rehearsal, Dad put me (in my carseat) on the Steinway piano, so everyone could see me.  The amazing Tom Goeman, accompanist for the choir, played me a lullaby, while sitting on the Steinway piano.  It was a moment for the history books (aka this blog).  I ended up staying on the piano for at least a half hour while the whole Bach Choir serenaded with me music.  It reminded me of the weekly rehearsals I would attend with Mommy, but as an inside baby.  Mom says I would kick through the whole rehearsal.  As an outside baby I slept through the whole rehearsal, but music has that effect on babies.

How many people can say they've slept on a Steinway while being serenaded by the Bach Choir?  Like my socks?

Walnford Park

This weekend we went to visit the Grandpa and Gigi in New Jersey.  After lunch we all took a walk in Walnford Park.  It is a restored estate just down the road from my Grandparent's house.  I hung out with Dad in the Baby Bjorn.  We met a friendly Kitty who took us on a tour of the property.  We found out his name was The Colonel.  You know what I don't get?  Why is it pronounced "kernel"?  Where is the "r"?  Remind me to bring that up with my Kindergarten teacher.  Before we left for New Jersey, Grandpa Krug stopped by for a quick visit on his way to visit my Great Grandparents.  After Walnford Park, Daddy's piano teacher, Mrs. Stern, came over for a visit.  Apparently I wore 6 different outfits throughout the day.  Phew, it's tough being this cute.

Today Mommy was exhausted, so she took a nap.  Daddy made Turkey Swedish Meatballs for dinner, and I had a bath.

The curse of the Gap Hoodie...

I have a really cute Gap Hoodie.  It's Daddy's favorite outfit when I wear it with navy blue sweatpants.  They make me look like a regular little boy (as opposed to a regular little baby).  But this sweatshirt must be CURSED.  Every time I put it on it I spit-up ALL over it within 10 minutes.  Ok, so I spit-up pretty often, but usually it's only a small amount.  Mom doesn't change my outfit unless it's super soaked.  Let's be honest, I have a pretty fantastic spring wardrobe, but if Mom changed me with every spit-up I would go through all my clothes within 2 days.  But with the Gap Hoodie, I almost never wear it for more than 20 minutes.  I SOAK it with spit-up.  So I have to plan when to put it on around when Daddy will be home to enjoy it for those 20 minutes.  Anyway, here is a picture of me in my Hoodie:

Needless to say, it's in the wash now.

Sleep please?

From Mommy:
It's tough.  I used to need a good 8-9 hours of sleep each night to function the next day. Having a baby takes that down to MAYBE 5 or 6 very disrupted hours, at least the last few nights for us.  I just don't feel myself.  I'm worn down, emotional, tired, and grumpy.  Preston and I still have a good time during the day, but he's not even napping as well as he used to.  I tried SO hard to get a nap in with him today, but every time I tried to put him down he would start fussing within 10 minutes.  He would go back to sleep with a little tummy rub, but I can't sooth him in MY sleep.  He did take a 2 hour nap, but it started at 4pm, and I decided that was too late for me to take a nap.  Not to mention that I'm never really sure how long he is going to go without fussing.  I didn't want to get my hopes up with trying for another nap.  It's now about 9:30 and the plan is to feed him REALLY well as soon as I am done typing.  We're talking marathon nursing session, and then hopefully sleep for a few hours.
He must be going through a growth spurt.  I thought I had such a good sleeper a few weeks ago when I could predict within 15 minutes of when he would wake up.  Gone are those days, leaving me searching for any type of consistency or routine.  I get it.  It's probably up to me to get him into a routine, but from what I hear the second one has a baby on a routine he'll go through some major developmental phase a ruin the whole thing.  I also hear that 8 weeks is a turning point for sleeping.  I'm really looking forward to the weekend when I can rely on John to take a night time shift without feeling too guilty.  As it is he's really good about letting me have a baby break in the early morning, but the toughest time is the 3 or 4:00 wake up call.
I've also started back into my pre-pregnancy habit of insomnia.  I just can't fall asleep!  I know the reason I can't fall asleep is because I'm only thinking about the next time he's going to wake up.  I don't want to fall asleep only to have to wake up 10 minutes later, so the end result is that I never fall asleep.  That's part of why it was so nice to be able to predict when he would wake up again.  I felt confident that I had a good 2.5-3 hours to sleep, so I didn't worry about it.
Tonight is another night and tomorrow is another day.  We will get through this.

My first time out to a restaurant!!!  Mommy, Daddy, and Siobhan took me to On the Border over by Airport Rd.  Daddy had a business dinner with some colleagues from Germany.  I was so well-behaved, I slept the whole time.  I don't like spicy food so hopefully Mommy ate something mild, otherwise I will not be able to sleep tonight.

Daddy's note:
Olympus treated me for dinner, but Siobhan and Carrie and PJ tagged along to the restaurant.  We all had a good time, I had 2 margaritas, PJ had breast milk.  Tomorrow is a big day for me, so the Nedick's will be going to bed early.

What's in a name?

From Mommy:
Today was a quiet day for me and Preston.  I got him to take a short nap in his crib, Jeanna came over to do some work with me, and now Preston is cooing upstairs in his bassinet.  So, I'd like to dedicate this blog post to ALL of Preston's names.
People sometimes ask us why we picked the name Preston, and the answer is that we just liked it!  We had it picked out before we even got pregnant, and stuck with it for those 9 months.  I looked through baby name websites like nobody's business to see if I could find something that I liked better.  To be honest I had SO many girl's names that I loved, but I had a really hard time with boy's name.  Our final list of possibilities only had 2 names on it.  I think his name is fitting for him.
Preston has a LOT of nicknames.  Some we use pretty often, some are just pet names that we use because he's so darn cute.  Here are a few:
Preston
PJ
Peej
Pooj
Peejer
Poojer
Peejee-Weejee
Bub
Bubs
Bubby
Bubber
Bugger
Bug
Booger
Bubby-Wubby
Baby Boy
Munchkin
Gremlin
Chubs
Chubber
Stinky
Stinker
Kiddo
Hands Magee
Hoover

To list a few

One that Jim pushed for but doesn't make the list: Pre (Sorry Jim :-P)

*Update*
I just called him Peanut.  Gotta add that one to the list!

Yesterday was a slow day.  We went grocery shopping and then Grandma Krug came over for dinner and "baby time."  Mom has gotten a lot of cross-stitch done in the past few days, which is good because she needed to catch up on some projects.  Apparently she did a LOT of knitting while she was pregnant with me.  Now that I am fitting into bigger clothes, she keeps pulling out sweaters, booties, hats, you name it, that she had knitted before I was born.  I don't know where it all comes from!  Anyway, she has some other projects to work on now, so having other people to entertain me makes it easier for her to get stuff done.

Daddy had off from work today, so we were all home again!  Yay for 3 day weekends! Mom took a trip to Joann Fabrics (Simplicity patterns were a dollar a piece!!  She picked out a few patterns for a Christening Outfit), and left me home with Dad for a few hours.  I missed her.  I slept the WHOLE time I was home with Dad and the minute Mom got home I started to cry (ok, so that story is better from Mom's perspective, so she might re-tell it in her own words).  Mom tried to get me to nap it my crib this afternoon.  I stayed upstairs for 45 minutes, but then Dad came and got me when I got really upset about being in a new place.  We'll keep trying.

I finally met my Aunt Debbie - via the Internet!  We Skyped!  Here's a screen shot that she took of Mom and Me.  I can't wait to meet her in person, but Skype is fun for now.

Family Day

Today my Grandparents came over to see me.  Uncle Joe came, too!  It was SO windy today.  The weather is a little bit nicer, and a lot of the snow has melted, but it's not supposed to stay this way.  We stayed in the house most of the day, and I napped.  Yes, I slept just about ALL day!  There is something about napping ON someone that's makes napping that much better.
Emily came over to join us for dinner.  She is going back to College tomorrow, so I won't see her again for a while.  Hopefully both of my Vermont Aunts can come see me sometime in March.
This morning I played in my Rain Forest Gym for a good 20 minutes!  It was a lot of fun.  I think we should make it a daily thing!
Here are a few photos from the day, and you can see more in the "Weekend with the Nedick's" album.

Warm Weather

Today it was so warm outside that Mom decided it was time to work on my spring wardrobe.  We did a lot of shopping this afternoon.  We went to the Thrift Shop, Kohl's, and Buy Buy Baby.  I napped the whole time.  It was a quiet day.  Tomorrow my Grandparents and Uncle Joe are coming to visit!  We'll get a lot of photos.  They won't believe how BIG I look.

From Mommy:
Preston is growing out of his newborn clothes *tear*.  I liken getting him dressed to putting a fitted sheet on a mattress.  That last corner is alway the hardest, and on Preston it's usually an arm.  I feel like I have to gently bend it around like a dolly to get it in his sleeve.  Once he's dressed the clothes fit ok, but I don't think we have much time left in them.  I got him a lot of cute 0-3 clothes to add to our collection.  I think it's at a wierd in-between size right now.  Newborns are too small, but 0-3 are too big.  The same is true with diapers.  I am ready to start using some cloth diapers, but I think he is still a little too small.  When I go shopping for diapers I have a hard time deciding what size to get.  The newborn diapers have been leaking, but I think the 1s will be too big - and leak.  The newborns are supposed to work up to 10lbs, while the 1s work for 8-14 lbs.  So when you have a baby that's 9.5lbs, which size do you get?  Major dilemma.  I have a few of both sizes, and we'll just have to see how they work!  I'm going on and on, and I would love to do some cross-stitching tonight.  We'll have photos and more fun tomorrow!

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

We were only outside for about 40 minutes, but that was the highlight of our day!  The weather was so nice today, that Mom and I decided to go for a walk.  Mom enjoyed the fresh air and tranquility...while I slept in the frontpack.  I guess I got some fresh air, too, and soon enough I'll be able to enjoy more of the outdoors...awake!  The rest of the day Mom got some work done and I slept.  We are sort of settling into a routine, although I still prefer to be held when I am awake, and I'm still too little to entertain myself with toys.

From Mommy:
For some reason I'm pretty tired tonight.  I think Preston might be going through a growth spurt or just becoming more aware of things.
