And then, just like that, they were over it. They abandoned the seat, and me, next to the refridgerator to cry.
I LOVED this seat...for about 5 seconds. Then my brothers decended upon the seat, with me in it. It's as if this baby toy is the.most.exciting.thing they have EVER seen. They fought over who got to push me. They bickered over who got to push the Winnie The Pooh button.
And then, just like that, they were over it. They abandoned the seat, and me, next to the refridgerator to cry.

From Alyssa – This has been a big week for me. I learned how to roll over from my tummy to my back. I love to wiggle around, grab my feet, reach for toys that are dangling over me or in front of me, and I kick my feet ALL the time. I also go my first daycare cold. It’s a doozy. I have a really loud cough that wakes me up at night. Mom is a little tired these last few days from being up in the middle of the night we me. Thankfully it’s been getting better, and I feel pretty good during the day. I also tried bananas for the first time! Yuck. Not the usual first baby reaction to something delicious like bananas, but Mom thinks it’s still too early so we’ll try again in a week or two to see if I start liking food. From Preston and Luke – On father’s day we helped Mom make breakfast in bed for Daddy, and then we all played legos all morning long. In the afternoon, we hung out with Mommy’s Daddy (Grandpa!) to ride, chase, and ride again the WK&S. Lukey fell asleep on the last train ride of the day, and we both had a fun (and busy!) time. We even got to ride on a speeder around the yard. Neither of us were that excited to go on the speeder, but Grandpa bribed and moved us along until we did it. That picture of Preston on the locomotive and Luke running around in the background gives me serious de-ja-vu. I'm pretty sure we have one just like it of Ted and me. I'll have to look for it one of these days.
Mommy got the first giggles out of Alyssa today with an hysterical game of peek-a-boo!
Preston graduated from Pre-K last week. We were so proud of him! They marched in to their seats, sang some songs and poems, and then we all went outside to see them do a balloon release. That was Preston’s favorite part he said it was “so beautiful.” Lukey liked that part, too. He got to let go of a balloon with Grandpa and then he wanted to “try again!” After the ceremony school had a nice party for us and the kids got to play together for a little bit before we came home. It was a fun night. Before Pre-K graduation we came home for a bit. When John went to get the hose to water some plants he noticed that a baby bird had fallen out of a nest too soon. The nest wasn’t too high in the tree, so John put the baby back in the nest. You are welcome Mrs. Dopey Morning Dove. That was last Friday and the babies are STILL in the nest. They are going to have to fledge soon. On Saturday John took Preston to a birthday party and Grandpa took look on a train ride without his big brother. It’s nice that Luke got some one-on-one time with Grandpa. Their engine ended up being a diesel, which is just fine with Luke, and they had a great time riding and chasing. Luke likes to rock back and forth to the rhythm of the train. This week Preston has been going to a special camp through the church pre-school which is all about the wild west. Grandma has been taking him while we are at work and the littles are at daycare. Yesterday they did a little project, panned for gold, and read some cowboy books. Today they went to visit a local horse stable before going back to their regular program. Preston was SO excited to take carrots and apples for the horses. When Grandma came to pick him up this morning they were talking about going to visit the horses. As they were leaving Luke got upset because he wanted to “ride horsies,” too. Of course Luke couldn’t go, but Preston must have felt guilty about it because he made Luke a card and a present at Grandma’s house to make him feel better. He wrapped up one of Grandma’s beany babies, a bear with a confetti pattern – and let Luke open it. Luke named it “Brown Bear.” It’s white with rainbow confetti. He’s sleeping with it now. I think they miss each other when they are apart for a while. Preston slept over at Grandma and Grandpas house on Monday so that he would be ready for camp on Tuesday. Luke kept asking for him all night and into the next day. Oh, brotherly love. I think Alyssa is finally getting her first daycare cold. She has lasted a LONG time, especially for having two big brothers and being at daycare for well over a month. She has a good immune system! Poor baby girl is coughing a lot and is a little fussy. Hopefully it passes quickly, she has rolling and scooting to learn. She found her feet this week! She loves to grab her feet, suck on her toes and roll around on her back. She is still a very happy, easy baby and loves her big brothers. We all went to the lake for Memorial Day weekend and it was Alyssa’s first time! She was a dream boat on the way there, not making a peep for nearly 4 hours. The way home she was more fussy and we had to stop once. Overall she’s a pretty easy traveler so far. She got her toes dipped in the lake and toenails painted for the first time. She loved playing on the lawn on a beach towel with Tia Deb, and she got passed around to everyone all weekend long. It’s nice for Mommy to have some extra hands. I was even able to finish a little dress that I was knitting for her. Preston and Luke are very excited to go back to the lake again. I think then next time will be in July. The boys had an awesome time, too. Luke loves going on boat rides now. I think he was a little nervous about it last year. And Preston is very confident in the water, something that took him most of the summer last year. The water, in my opinion, was freezing, but the kids were able to splash around in short dips and then dry off on the lawn in the sun. It was HOT, which is very unusual for Memorial Day, but it made for a great long weekend. Preston caught a little fish with his Batman Fishing rod within the first hour of arriving. Then Daddy used the little fish as bait to catch a much bigger fish. And it actually worked! Poor little fish. It did rain for a bit on Sunday afternoon, but we managed to find projects and games for the kids to play inside. Part of the fun is finding new things to do when the outside isn’t an option. The day after we got home from the lake the boys had gymnastics. I thought we had one more week, so I didn’t go with them, but it ended up being the last day, and I was bummed that I missed their little awards ceremony. Luke got his FIRST medal and certificate! He looked so proud! Preston got a medal and certificate, too. If we decide to do gymnastics with him again in the fall, he will be in an all-boys class. Serious business! This week Preston and I went to his Kindergarten assessment. We talked about it for a few days ahead of time. He knew that he just needed to go meet with a teacher and that they would ask him questions. He knew I would stay, but that I couldn’t go with him. When we got there, he was shy for a minute, but went into the classroom without any problems. He did a little test on an iPad while I went into another room to chat with the Principal and other moms. I asked him what he did for his test and he just said “I don’t remember.” It was a much better experience than Kindergarten registration. I went to work after that, but THEN John picked up Preston early from school so they could both go to the dentist! They both had a great check-up, and for the last two days Preston has been SO excited about the little toy he picked out as a reward. It’s a little green lizard thing that clings to a pencil. He calls it his Chameleon, and all he wants to do is go to the pet store and pick out a real pet chameleon, feed it bugs, and keep it for ever and ever. Mommy and Daddy are not at all excited by this and hope that it soon blows over.
Yesterday, I took Alyssa to the Pediatrician for her 4 month check-up! That’s right, she turned 4 months old on Tuesday. She is ALMOST rolling over from back to front. She can get her body all the way bent around into a backwards “C” tilt up on her side, kick her leg over, and then her shoulder gets stuck. Almost, but not quite. It’s only a matter of days, though. She is so much more flexible than the boys were at this age. She weighs 14lbs 1oz, and is 25.5 inches long. She is 50% for both and tracking beautifully. She got two shots, and my delicate flower screamed for them. She was soon ok with a few snuggles, and fell asleep in the car on the short ride to daycare. Everything else to great with her, she’s right on track. |
