Many Milestones

So this has been a pretty big week for me.  I got my first 2 teeth, learned to pull myself up on the toilet AND on my crib.  Do you know what that means?  I'm going to start chomping on my crib... beaver style!  It's time for Mom to get the crib covers made and installed.  I also got my first round of separation anxiety when Mom left me at daycare.  It's sad to see her leave, but once I get settled in I have fun.
Tomorrow we are going to visit baby Gavin.  He'll be 1 week old.  Also, Mommy and I are going to start a 30 day photo challenge.  She found it on Pinterest and thought it would be fun for us to do in the month of October.  I think she'll post the details.

From Mommy
Preston can pull himself up on everything now... life as we know it is over.  On Wednesday morning I was brushing my teeth in the bathroom like normal.  Preston likes to be in there with me, but he usually just bangs on the bathroom scale and tries to crawl into the shower.  I heard a splashing sound behind me, and nearly freaked out (I thought that he might have fallen in, in hindsight that sounds pretty ridiculous).  He had pulled himself up on the toilet and was splashing around.  I said "uh oh," and he smiled at me.  Of course he thought it was fun.  I immediately washed his hands with soap and water, and now we have to watch him like a hawk when he is hanging with us in the bathroom.  He did it SO quickly for me to not have noticed.  I guess that is going to be life now.  He won't be where I left him anymore.  I feel like we are no baby-proofed at all, and suddenly we need to be.  We need to get baby gates, cabinet locks, toilet locks, possibly doorknob covers, etc.  Where did my baby go, and who is this crawling, cruising, standing kiddo?

Snuggling with Daddy

Mommy is SO jealous.  Daddy and I took a nap together this afternoon.  It was a good Saturday, my Aunties visited this morning, and then Mom and Dad had to go to their Bach Choir audition.  I do have big news to share, though.  My friend, Gavin, was born today!!  He decided to join me on the exciting outside world.  I can't wait to meet him soon in person.  I'll be sure to blog about it.

I've been slacking on the blog this week, and I need to post about our special visit last weekend.  I finally met my Great Grandpa.  He came to visit all the way from Florida.  I also got to meet my Great Aunt Sylvia; she's also from Florida.  We all went out for lunch at the Olive Garden.  We got a lot of great photos of the whole family.  You can see them all on the Shutterfly Photo albums, but here are some highlights:
From Mommy:
This was a tough week for me.  I don't know what my problem was, but on Thursday morning when I got into work I was just so upset.  I missed Preston SO much.  On Wednesday night I had to stay late a work for an event, and by the time I got home Preston was already asleep (Thanks to Emily for babysitting!).  I didn't get to do my night time routine with him, and I didn't get to nurse him to sleep like usual.  I think that might have been part of the problem.  In any case I was in tears at my desk every time I looked up at his picture, so I had to do something.  I decided I just needed to see him, and at lunch time I went to visit him at daycare.  Of course I called ahead and his teacher was happy to hold off on giving him his lunch for 10 minutes so that I could do it.  It was SO good to spend those few minutes with him.
It's really hard having a child in daycare.  I feel like I am missing out on the best parts of his day.  I love him SO much, he's getting his own little personality, and I want to know every part of him.  Can he give high fives?  Can he wave bye-bye?  What are the new sounds he is learning?  What are his favorite daycare toys?  How does he interact with Naomi?  Connor?  I try not to obsess about all these questions, and I like to chat with his teachers when I drop him off and pick him up.  I get to hear a lot of stories, but I want to see it all first hand!
Now, on the weekends, I try to spend a lot of time with him: cuddling, playing, talking, etc.  I feel like I have to cram a weeks worth of activity into 2 days.
I'm sure I'll find my balance again.  Even after seeing him for a few minutes at lunch I felt a little better.  I might try to go see him a lunch a few times a week.

Swinging!

Daddy put up my new swing today!  It is SO fun.  I was laughing before they even pushed me.
Mommy also got an exciting package in the mail: her Sleepy wrap.  We tried that one out, too.  It's not super fun like the swing, but Mom likes it because it's a good way for her to hold me and get some other things done a the same time.

The weirdest practical joke

9/12/2011

Today started out like any other day.  Mommy took me to daycare and then went to work.  But at about 10:30 Mommy got a call with a strange question:  Did you give Preston anything "different" to eat recently?
How many people can guess what would make Miss Tiffany suspect a slight change in my diet?  You got it: the answer is in the POOP!  Yes, my poop was a cranberry red color, and Miss Erin freaked out.  She was ready to call 911, because she thought I was bleeding!
EVERYTHING IS FINE!  Mom and Dad gave me beets last night!  They were messy, but yummy.
As Dad was shoveling the beets into my mouth Mom mentioned that she should probably tell daycare that diaper changes might be a little weird in the morning, but Daddy thought it would be funny to see if they noticed.  THEY NOTICED!

In other news, at daycare I'm known as the toy snatcher.  Mommy says I need to work on sharing with the other babies.  Now that I can army crawl, I love moving around the room at daycare, finding toys and waking my friends from their naps.

Phil and Holly and LVC

Yesterday we visited Phil and Holly.  We wanted to see them before their baby arrived and the craziness set in!  Holly says she is feeling great, and they are both SO excited for little Gavin to come.  She loved the sweater Mommy made for her.
There was a lot of flooding around their house this past week, so lots of bridges and roads were washed out.  It took mom and dad a while to figure out how to actually get to their house.  We had to take some back roads that we've never been on before.
We had lunch at their house and then went to take a walk at LVC.  The dining hall is totally changed around, so Mom and Dad wanted to see it.
We are SO excited to get the message from Phil and Holly that the baby is here!  It could be any day now!

Mommy signed us up for Topmommyblogs.com!  Everytime you click on the picture in the side bar we get a vote!  Maybe, if everyone clicks on it each time they visit the blog, in FIVE YEARS we'll have enough votes to qualify for something.  I can hope right?

Daddy is in New York City (Brooklyn to be exact) tonight with the Bach Choir.  They are singing some concerts tomorrow night as part of a 9/11 tribute.  Mommy will be listening on the radio!
Mom and I picked up Siobhan tonight and went to Joann to see about getting stuff to make her a fascinator hat (she wants to be Kate Mid for Halloween).  Then Siobhan came over to hang out with us for the night!

From Mommy:
Preston likes Cheerios.  I let him have a few with dinner, because they are yummy and they keep him entertained.  I couldn't help but watch him try to eat them today; it was SO cute.  He's working on his pincer grasp, but still mostly picks things up with a fist.  It's amazing to me that he knows that he wants the Cheerio in his mouth, and I can see the little hamster in his brain working on how to do it.  He picks one up in his fist and looks at it.  Then he brings his fist up to his mouth and sticks his fingers in his mouth.  1 in 5 times he gets the Cheerio in the first try.  If he doesn't he looks at his hand to see if the Cheerio is still there.  If it is, he goes for it again; if it's not he looks for another cheerio.  Sometimes if he knows the cheerio is in his fist, but he just can't get it in his mouth he cries in frustration.  Poor guy :-(.  For every 1 cheerio he gets in his mouth I find at least 10 on the floor or in his lap.  He's getting better, though!
