Williamsburg - Part 1

We are on vacation in Williamsburg!  And by vacation I mean even busier than usual!  I meant to write a blog every night we were here, but Mom and Dad got really into Hunger Games, so that occupied most of our evenings.  Oops!  So I'll try to get you all caught up on what's been going on.  Before I get into all the details I have to mention that I got another tooth (finally, the bottom one on the right), and I got my first skinned knees.  I was being no-pants-Peej and tripped on the cement patio outside our room.  Both of my knees got scraps :-(.  I only cried for a minute, and then I thought it was funny when Dad rinced me off the in sink.  I got two band-aids that I quickly took off, so then Mom had to put 2 more band-aids on my knees and pants on top of that so I couldn't get to them.  Crisis averted!

Our journey began on Friday night when we frantically packed the car, bikes and all, and started the long drive to Virginia.  I slept the whole way until we got to Aunt Kim and Uncle Chuck's house in Maryland at about 10:15.  I played with their doggy for a while until it was time to go to bed!  Mom and I had a rough night because I was too wound up, but we slept a little bit and then got up to have breakfast.  We had a lovely time with Uncle Chuck and Mary, and then we were on our way again!  It rained the whole rest of the way, and we arrived in Williamsburg at about 1:00.  Just in time for lunch!  In the afternoon we went swimming in the pool.  Mom and I blew bubbles, and I got my face in the water many times!  Then we had dinner and went to bed.

On Sunday it was rainy so we decided to do some indoor things.  We went to Jamestown Settlement and indoor/outdoor museum that showed us the whole history of this area.  We started with the inside part.  I wanted to run around the whole time in the museum, and luckily they had buttons to push and other silly interactive things for kids.  Then we went to their outside areas, the weather wasn't too bad.  They had a Indian Village, a pier with boats, and a fort!  My favorite part about the outside was the chickens!  They seemed to be everywhere and I loved to chase them.  We also de-furred a pelt, ground corn, hollowed out a canoe, tried out the sailors quarters on a tiny ship, and saw a shooting demonstration.  We took a picnic lunch, and ate in the small cafe at the museum.  Here are some highlights.
The past two days have been beautiful weather, and we spent them in Colonial Williamsburg.  It is a fully working village from the 1700's.  They have no modern conveniences, so they do everything by hand.  That means that most of the people are skilled craftsmen and women.  There are many shops and work shops that you can visit and learn about.  The workers in the shops tell you about their craft, sometimes do a demonstration, and answer your questions.  If I can remember them all we visited the apothacary, millenary/seamstress, wigmaker, jeweler (silversmith), gunsmith,  and wheelright.  We still need to visit the blacksmith and the cabinet maker, but we have one more day to do that.   We also took a tour of the Governors Mansion and the Capitol building.

There is also an excellent museum nearby which we visited on Monday.  I ended up taking a nap during that visit, but Mom and Dad liked the furniture on display and the quilts.
Last night we went out to eat a small Italian Restaurant named Franchesco's, but most of the time we either take a picnic lunch with us or make food back at the hotel (we have a small kitchen.  My naps and routine are all out of sync right now, but we manage.  It's makes Mom a little crazy, though.

As always you can see ALL of the pictures here:

Here are my skinned knees.  This is some kind of milestone, right?

Great Grandpa

It has been so warm lately that I want to spend a lot of time outside.  At daycare we get to play outside at least once a day if the weather is nice and sometimes twice!  Those are my favorite times.  I like to throw the mulch, slide on the slide, and fill up the big red car with gas.
I had a little bit of a problem on the playground the other day.  One of the bigger kids wanted the toy I was playing with, but I wasn’t finished yet, and he bit me.  I had a bruise on my shoulder now.  I got over it, and my teacher said it wasn’t my fault.  I’m too little to really know how to share.  It’s too bad that things like this happen, but we are friends again.

Last weekend was another busy one for us.  On Saturday Daddy came home from California and met us at Mema and Poppop’s house for Poppop’s birthday party!  We got to see Aunt Kim, Uncle Chuck, and Aunt Merideth again, and Uncle Ted, Aunt Rachel, and Liora were there!  It was nice to see my little cousin again, and Mom and Grandma got their “baby fix.”  We took  a really long walk after lunch and threw some rocks into a pond.  Both Liora and I LOVED it; neither of us took a nap (I think Mom and Dad secretly hoped that I would; that was silly, because I only want to be awake for super fun outside time!)

Then on Sunday Mom and Dad had to sing in the Bach Choir Spring Concert, so Gigi and Grandpa came to babysit.

Here are two “generation” pictures from the weekend.

14 Months (by the time you read this)

Tomorrow I turn 14 months!  A lot of my favorites are still my favorites - books, foods, clothes, etc.  So I don't have many things to share in my "snapshot in time."  I do have 2 more teeth - MOLARS, and one more that been bothering me all week, but hasn't shown is spikey little self yet.  I had another front bottom tooth peek out a few weeks ago, but that guy decided he wasn't really ready to join the wide world and went back in.

What I had for breakfast:
Cheerios, fruit, milk

What I had for lunch:
Tuna, beans, cottage cheese, peaches

What I had for dinner:
Noodles, bananas, chili, peaches

Snacks:
Crackers, animal cookies, juice

New words I've learned:
Cracker, woof, cluck cluck, moon,

I laugh when I sneeze.

We are learning about outer space this month in daycare, so when Mom and I are reading books I like to tell her all about the stars when they are in the books.  We color pictures of starts, moons, rocket ships, and planets!  Mom thinks it is cool that I remember stuff that I learn at school and come home to tell her all about it.

I learned how to drink out of a straw sippy cup (I still have to learn to hold the cup down instead of tipping it up like my other one).  At dinner time I use a fork almost all the time to eat, and I blow on my food to cool it down.

I can point to noses, eyes, and ears.

I LOVE to play outside and take walks in my wagon.

I am starting to use inflection when I want to ask a question like "Where did my cracker go?"

And finally here is a fun picture from Akira's first birthday party last weekend - Kisses for the Birthday Girl!

Saturday... in the park (sing it)

We went to the awesome playground today - like seriously AWESOME!  There were hundreds of slides, swings, activities, and even some climbing walls (I guess I'm still too little for those).  They even had "talking pipes."  You make a sound into one end, and you have to find the other end somewhere in the park.  Crazy!  We took the wagon with Gigi and Grandpa so that we could go for a walk once we were done on the playground.  On the walk we went over 2 bridges and saw some ducks and geese.  I LOVE to play outside, so today was the perfect day.

Sitting for snacktime

At daycare I always have to sit down to eat my snack or my lunch.  It is their rule, and it's a good rule!  Since I am so good at following the rules, I sometimes have to remind Mom.  So tonight when we got home and I got some milk and a cracker to hold me over until dinner time, I tried to remind Mom about the sitting rule, but she wasn't paying attention.  So I just sat down on the floor.  THAT got her attention.  So then she got a really good idea.  She brought one of my play chairs up from downstairs so that I wouldn't have to sit in my high chair just for a little snack.  I loved sitting the chair, but I don't know how to get on or off of it yet.  I guess I have to figure that out.  Here is a picture of me in my chair!  You might also notice my haircut.  Mom thinks it's a bit short in the front.  Maybe I will have to spike it for my school picture next week.

From Mommy:
When I picked up Preston from daycare today all of the kids were outside playing on the playground.  Pres was one of the little kids of the group, and he looked TINY compared to all the rest.  But he was VERY cute.  I talked to his teacher for a few minutes while he was playing, and his favorite thing to do was pick up the wood chips off the ground and throw them back down.  He was laughing so hard about it!  All I could think was "he is such a boy!"  He also showed me how he loves the slide (with the help of his teacher), and he did NOT want to go back inside to go home.  All of the big kids seem to love Preston.  There is always someone (a bigger kid) watching over him, holding his hand, getting him toys, or giving him a hug.  It melts my heart a little bit.
When we got home it was still really nice outside so we stayed out for at least a half hour.  He wanted to swing, and then he just likes to pick up all the sticks that are around the yard.  I hope that when it is really nice out we can do some yard work together.  I'm not sure how much we will actually get done though, because he is a wanderer.  We have to work on getting him to stay within my sight.
Anyway, it's nice to be able to step back from work a little more, and Preston, John

Missing Mommy

This was the busiest weekend of the year for Mommy.  She coordinated the Schadt String Competition at work, and the semi-finals and finals are always the first weekend in March.  It meant that it was just Daddy and me; we only saw Mom for dinner and sometimes breakfast.  It was fun to hang out with Daddy.  We went on wagon walks, and visited with some of his friend, Leslie and Corey and Sheila.  On Sunday we went to Mom's work to see the Finals competition, so I got to spend some of the afternoon with her, even if she was working the whole time.  She was pretty exhausted by the end, and took off of work on Monday.  Dad took me to daycare so she could relax a little bit.  I really missed her though.  We are still catching up on snuggles.

I haven't blogged in a while, so I have a few other newsy things to mention.  On Friday I fell and daycare and bumped my lip on a toy.  I still have a bit of a boo boo on my lip, but it is healing well.  Grandpa came over that night so that Mom and Dad could go out for dinner for the Competition.  I had a fun time with him!

I really love to throw jumbles down the stairs, and Miss Jen from daycare loaned me her toy vacuum cleaner.  I love to clean things!  I also love to go downstairs to play in the basement and anytime anyone says the word "down" I think we are going down there to play!!  Mom and Dad have to be careful if we don't actually have time to go down to play.  Tonight, in the bathtub, Mom gave me a touch-up haircut.  We'll see what it really looks like in the morning - hehe.  I may need  a professional fix.

We'll try to get some pictures for the next post!  And now that Mom isn't crazy any
